Ana Medina Ayala, Industry Roundtable Speaker

Ana Medina Ayala is a Robotics Software Engineer at Jibo, Inc., a startup company working on the first social robot for the home. Jibo can perform functions that are now common to computerized assistants, such as provide a weather forecast or the latest news. It can also tell a joke or story on request. But unlike Echo, for example, Jibo uses speech and facial recognition to interact with members of a household. It can identify specific individuals and address them by name, rotate on its base to face someone who’s speaking to it, and shoot photographs on command. In her role, Dr. Medina Ayala develops, integrates, and tests computer vision algorithms ranging from camera control techniques to deep neural networks for facial recognition and verification.

Dr. Medina Ayala earned her Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering from Universidad Nacional de San Agustin. She earned her Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Tufts University. She earned her PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Boston University.
