Small-noise asymptotics of car-following models
We look at the effect of small noise on a car-following model. Our interest is a boundary layer corresponding to collision, and the interaction between noise and a collision-preventing singularity. Looking at a single vehicle following a lead vehicle, we understand how to bound the effect of the singularity and show that collision is unlikely over large time intervals for small noise. This is joint work with Hossein Matin.
Richard Sowers is Professor in the Departments of Mathematics and Industrial and Enterprise Systems at the University of Illinois. His interests are big data, machine learning, and stochastic systems. He has consulted in both private industry and for the U.S. government.
