Briana Canet was majoring in Mechanical Engineering at Florida International University and completed her undergraduate studies in 2020.
Born and raised in Miami, Canet was first encouraged by her middle school Geometry teacher to consider engineering as a professional career path. Her passion for creative problem-solving continued to grow from there.
Summer 2018, she assisted Dr. Agarwal in his lab at FIU, researching biopolymer scaffolds for arranging cardiac cells. Since it was her first time in an academic research setting, Canet gained valuable experience that prepared her well for her future.
Summer 2019, Canet interned at Al-Farooq Corporation in Miami, FL. During her time there, she was focused on coding. She learned Excel Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) and created a database for the company’s engineers. The database gave the company structure and organization through a streamlined program for their calculation sheets and MATCAD files, which aids in their day-to-day tasks. Canet also grasped structural design knowledge regarding the effects of fluid properties through the employment of ASCE 7-10, a program that calculates wind load pressures.
She has since obtained an MS in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University and currently works as a quality engineer. She is highly interested in large-scale projects and wants to use her mechanical engineering knowledge to its fullest potential.
