Akhila worked in the Chen Lab controlling mass transport in organ-on-a-chip devices. She created a profusion system to feed media or nutrients to the cells in the device over a longer period of time.
More about My Experience
Akhila is from Los Angeles, California and was a sophomore at Santa Monica College majoring in mechanical engineering when she joined the REU program.
Controlling Mass Transport in Organ-on-a-chip Devices: Over the summer, Akhila worked in Dr. Christopher Chen’s Tissue Microfabrication Lab alongside Madison Nieves (REU). Akhila was mentored by Terry Ching, together they worked on engineering vascular beds that connect to ex vivo tissue. Read more about the project here.
