Kent Burgoing

Kent Burgoing worked at the Forrest Lab focusing on nanofabricating organic electronic materials for precise cell attachment in the summer of 2021. In this time, he developed a quantitative model for the evaluation of organic electronic device packaging by conducting research on the process of performing an Electrical Calcium Test. Learn more about Kent and […]

Kiara Chambers

Kiara Chambers worked in the Forrest Lab focusing on organic vapor jet printing, which is a developing technique used to deposit cells more precisely for the benefit of restoring heart tissue.

Deidre Crockett

In the summer of 2022, Deidre participated in the Baker lab with mentor Samuel J. DePalma. She verified the viability and reliability of a new macro-scale 3D in vitro heart tissue model∙

Timothy Forrest

Timothy Forrest worked in the Forrest Lab while a student at University High School Academy. He is now on a pre-law track, majoring in English and minoring in Spanish at the University of Michigan.

Diana Garcia

As an REU student in the Helms’ Lab, Diana investigated the role of desmoplakin protein (a protein responsible for providing stability to tissues) and the desmosome on desmoplakin cardiomyopathy.

Diego Hernandez

Diego Hernandez worked in the Forrest Lab while a student at Cass Technical High School. He is now an Electrical Engineering major at the University of Michigan.

Megan Maero

In 2021, Megan worked in the Herron Lab (Cardiovascular Regeneration Core Laboratory) researching different devices to analyze cardiac heart tissue to look for a high throughput way to analyze three dimensional cardiac heart tissues for research in toxicity levels of new medicines. Learn more about Megan and her work below!

Alex Nuñez Carrasquillo

In 2021, Alex Nuñez Carrasquillo worked in the Lahann Lab focusing on biomimetic materials, advanced polymers and particle drug delivery. He designed an underlying scaffold to be able to place proteins that can stretch to emulate how heart tissues stretch. Learn more about Alex and his work below!

Suleyman Omer

In 2023, Suleyman Omer worked in the Baker Lab. WHile in the lab, Suleyman strengthened his knowledge of how structure and mechanics of the cellular microenvironment guide fundamental cell processes

Shola Onissema-Karimu

Shola Onissema-Karimu was a CELL-MET REU for two years. First she worked in the Chen Lab focusing on vasculogenesis, or the growth of blood vessels. The following summer, she was a REU participant at the Lahann Lab at the University of Michigan where she demonstrated the ability to produce alignment in engineered ECMs using novel polymer […]
