Nicole Bacca

Nicole Bacca did two summer research experiences with CELL-MET. In 2018, she worked in the White Lab where the team is worked to design 3D-printed scaffolding used to grow cells. This research required intensive reading and tricky software to get used to (COMSOL), but she gained valuable scientific experience through her participation in this program. […]

Elisa Bravo

For two summers in 2018 and 2019, Elisa worked in the Nanometer Scale Engineering Laboratory under Dr. Kamil Ekinci and mentored by Mustafa Cagatay Karakan at Boston University. Her research projects focused on exploring microfluidics and new techniques to fabricate 3D electrodes using Gallium-based liquid metals, which is done with much greater ease and results […]

Briana Canet

Briana was an REU in the Agarwal Lab at FIU, researching biopolymer scaffolds for arranging cardiac cells. The following summer, she interned at Al-Farooq Corporation in Miami, FL focusing on coding.

Ivanna Corzo

Ivanna participated in the Bifano Lab, focusing on optics and using high- tech microscopes to observe biological samples. By the end of the summer, she was able to transfer some of her research from BU to FIU.

Amanda Dillingham

Amanda spent six weeks of the summer working on developing lessons for her BioTech course at East Boston High School and later on invited members of Chris Chen’s laboratory to her classroom for BU’s NSF RET’s piloted “case-study curriculum”.

Antonio Martinez-Margolles

Antonio had two CELL-MET REU experiences. First he worked in the Bifano Lab at Boston University researching optics. Then, he work at the He Lab calibrating an Epi-Illumination Fluorescence Microscope with Piezo Stage that is meant for biological imaging the following summer.

Shola Onissema-Karimu

Shola Onissema-Karimu was a CELL-MET REU for two years. First she worked in the Chen Lab focusing on vasculogenesis, or the growth of blood vessels. The following summer, she was a REU participant at the Lahann Lab at the University of Michigan where she demonstrated the ability to produce alignment in engineered ECMs using novel polymer […]

Domenica Passariello

Domenica Passariello participated in two CELL-MET summer research experiences. First, she worked in the Chen Lab researching cardiomyocytes during the summer of 2018. The following summer, she went to the Baker Lab studying electrospinning DexMA fibers on the micro tug devices and measuring the tension of the fibers against the pillars.

Jean Paul Soto Aquino

In 2018, Jean worked in the White and Ekinci Labs researching cardiomyocyte actuation through the use of microfluidic devices.

Roy Brooks Rivera

Roy was a CELL-MET REU for two summers. In 2018, Roy worked in the Lahann Lab learning about bio-polymer nanoparticle characterization and how pH can affect the physical properties of these to ensure biocompatibility with the oral environment and better understand design factors. The summer after, he worked in the PFL group with Dr. Agarwal […]
