EEK! Learning and Design Objectives

EEK! was designed to meet 5 key learning objectives and be broadly adaptable to various sites across the US.

Learning Objectives

Through the 5 learning objectives (LO) EEK! is intended to:

Get children excited about engineering through minimizing cognitive barriers between self-identity and engineering

  • LO1: You can do things that engineers do – You’re an engineer!

Highlight the soft skills that are so important to engineering

  • LO2: Creativity is an important engineering tool.
  • LO3: Engineers use teamwork to find solutions to problems.

Demonstrate how engineering can be used to help people

  • LO4: Engineers help keep people healthy.
  • LO5: Engineers are working to solve problems like heart disease.

Broad-scale utility

We appreciate that every science center is unique and we have striven to make a kit that accommodates and embraces that.

Design Objectives Goal
Adaptability and Portability Enhances utility by accounting for local context and institutional needs, includes transportation for use within the community.
Pluralistic Approach Increase reach by appealing to all populations, regardless of learning styles, cultural backgrounds, ages, etc.
Ease of Use/Restock Allows for ongoing maintenance of activities regardless of institutional limitations related to variations in resources, staffing, or equipment access.
Parent/Guardian Appeal Engage adults who function as barriers or carriers to pursuing engineering activities.
