Katie Kao

Graduate Student

I received my BA in psychology at the University of Rochester in May 2012. Broadly, my research interests include emotion regulation in young children in the context of the family system. Specifically, I am interested in how interparental relationships and parenting may impact children’s ability to self-regulate in the face of stress, and the implications that those regulatory abilities might have for children’s development, both normative development and the development of psychopathology. In addition to behavioral observations, I am interested in the physiological underpinnings of young children’s cognitive functioning. In my spare time, I like to run and try new restaurants in Boston.

Alumni Update: Katie successfully defended her dissertation in Spring 2018 and earned her Ph.D. in Developmental Science. She is now a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Brazelton Touchpoints Center in the Division of Developmental Medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School.
