Judith Flores-Mercado

I am a first-year student at the MA program in Psychology at BU.  My background is a combination of Biology, Programming and Statistics. I did my Bachelor of Science in Pharma-biological Chemistry in Mexico in 2001. Then I proceeded to do research for 5 years at  the Neurophysiology of Sleep lab at Stanford University, and then at Stanford Research Institute. I spent the following six years doing PET imaging at Genentech. After 11 years of research experience I have come to the conclusion that I would like to focus on brain development. I think that if we can understand how the brain develops in the early years, we might be able to prevent or treat future abnormal behavior. After all, it is when we are children that our brain starts to make sense of the external world. I plan to apply for a Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology to start on 2015-2016.  My ultimate goal is to become a researcher in this field.  I am particularly interested in finding biomarkers of behavior and cognition, and I believe electroencephalograms (EEGs) are an excellent research tool in this quest.  I would also like to complement my career with teaching duties. On my free time I enjoy reading, exercising and watching movies
