BU Giving Day - Support Archaeology

Boston University’s 10th Giving Day is nearly here! This coming Wednesday, April 3, 2024, is a unique opportunity for our community to support our undergraduate students. Our efforts to establish an endowed fund, to support our students in perpetuity, were greatly enhanced last year by a significant donation from the estate of our long-time colleague, Mary Beaudry, who served our community for 40 years and left a lasting impact on both the field of historical archaeology and the lives of many of her students. Mary was a life-long advocate for equity and equal opportunity in archaeology, and we remember her through this fund. All donations received on Giving Day will go to this fund. This year we are delighted to announce a challenge award of $10,000 in support of this fund, which will match all donations made on Giving Day dollar-for-dollar! This extraordinarily generous donation has been pledged by alumna Jane Baxter (CAS ’93), who gives in recognition of Prof. Curtis Runnels and the central role he played in her archaeological training and career success. Following graduation from BU, Jane earned a PhD at the University of Michigan and is chair of the Department of Anthropology at DePaul University, where she has mentored generations of undergraduate students with the care and attention that she herself received at BU.I will be giving a leadership gift of $500 towards this challenge award, and I hope that you will join me with a gift of any amount. On Giving Day, in addition to our matching challenge fund, we are eligible for bonus funds awarded by the university both for the total size of gifts received and the number of donors, so even a small gift can help us earn thousands of dollars in bonus funding! Please consider an early donation or visit our campaign page on April 3 to donate!
