Message from President Brown regarding Wheelock College
August 29, 2017
Dear Friends:
As reported in an article in BU Today, Boston University has entered into formal discussions that may lead to the merger of Wheelock College with Boston University. Wheelock College is our closest neighboring private college, with its primary campus on the Riverway across from Landmark Center, a 20-minute walk from our Charles River Campus. It is composed of three schools focused on education, social work, and arts and sciences, with a mission to improve the lives of children and families. Currently Wheelock enrolls approximately 1,000 undergraduate and graduate students, housing many of them on its campus. Boston University and Wheelock have in common long traditions of outreach and engagement in the City of Boston and surrounding communities, particularly in the domains of education and social work.
Over the coming weeks, we will be working with our faculty and our academic and administrative leaders and with the leadership of Wheelock College to shape the vision of our merged academic units and services. We believe the merger will lead to enhancement of our programs, while also maintaining the exemplary mission of Wheelock College.
Sincerely,
Robert A. Brown
President
