A Thanksgiving Message from President Brown
November 25, 2020
Dear Members of the Boston University Community,
We face a Thanksgiving Day like no other we have seen in our lifetime. During a holiday when we look forward to being with family and friends, sharing a wonderfully American meal, and counting the blessings of friendship, peace, and good health, we will have to work harder this year to feel thankful. The growing spread of COVID-19 across our country is forcing us to forgo our typical holiday gatherings to protect our families and friends. I hope that the disruption does not prevent you from reflecting on our good fortune.
Thanksgiving is a time when we thank those who are closest to us and those who have made a difference in our lives. This year I hope you will reflect on the efforts of all those at Boston University who have worked tirelessly to make our campus as safe as possible for on-campus teaching, learning, and research. There are many who are responsible for maintaining the campus. I believe this year, the Healthway staff—those who operate our testing center, manage our collection sites, trace the contacts of members of our community who contract the disease, and all the other members of the health services team—deserve special mention. Without their exemplary efforts, our fall semester could have been very different.
I want to thank our faculty and staff members who have worked with our students, both in person and remotely, to make it possible for them to continue their studies during this unique semester. I recognize the tremendous strain caused by the virus both at home and in your professional life and very much appreciate all your efforts to help our students continue their education.
Our students have been remarkable in the commitment to their education and our academic community, demonstrating resilience by adapting to the very special environment that we created so that campus life could resume and continue.
I wish you all the very best for a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday and a successful and safe end to 2020!
Sincerely,
Robert A. Brown
President
