BU Academy students travel to Manchester, N.H., on March 3 to participate in the first round of a national robotics competition organized by the international nonprofit FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology). The high schoolers, with help from BU students and faculty, designed and built a robot that performs simple tasks by remote control or autonomously, by following a computer program. Standing, from left, are BU Academy physics teacher Gary Garber, BUA student Parker Porfilio, Brandon Mensing (CAS’07), who helps coach the team, and BUA students Sara Itani, Drew Macrae, Sam Duffley, Sam Massie, Sam Roberts, Toby Waite, Hyder Kazmi, Dana Neel, Amy Katushka, and Joe Recht. Sitting, from left, are competitors Craig Broady, Mike Yavorski, and Alex Kotrill. Photo by Vernon Doucette |
