Barbara Manning, administrative coordinator of the University Service Center, has won the grand prize in BU’s 2004 United Way campaign:

a trip for two to any destination in the continental United States and a $600 gift certificate for land arrangements. After receiving the prize at the University Holiday Party on December 16, Manning bought her son a new Red Sox jacket as a Christmas gift and hid the airplane tickets in the pocket. “I’m very grateful to BU and to Garber Travel for helping me put that smile on his face,” Manning says. Her son and his wife are planning a scuba diving trip to the Florida Keys in March or April.

A longtime contributor to the United Way, Manning says she “never even knew anyone who won these big prizes. I guess it’s true that good things come to those who wait.”

As of January 18, Boston University employees had contributed more than $159,400 to the United Way Campaign, representing 97 percent of BU’s $165,000 campaign goal. For more information on giving to the United Way, call 617-358-UWAY, or visit www.uwmb.org.
