The annual United Way fund drive began on October 1, and the University is already on its way to reaching this year’s goal of $175,000. “The United Way needs our help now more than ever,” says Marvin Cook, vice president of planning, budgeting, and information and the University’s United Way manager.

Participants who contribute $75 or more ($1.45 a week) will be eligible to win incentive prizes, which will be raffled off at drawings every Friday from October 17 through November 16 and at the University holiday party on December 12. The prizes include a Kodak EZ 200 digital camera and SynchMaster multimedia speaker system, a pair of Beanpot Tournament tickets, a one night stay for two at the Hotel Commonwealth, a $200 gift certificate to Barnes & Noble, a dinner cruise for two aboard the Spirit of Boston, four first balcony seats for May’s BU Night at the Pops, four tickets to the Commencement and Reunion Weekend all-University buffet celebration, three weekend getaways for two at a Marriott hotel, and a travel package for two to any location in the continental United States.

“They’re all very nice prizes,” Cook says, “and I would encourage people to get their contributions in early so that they will be eligible for all the drawings.”
