He’s not a down-and-out theater producer, he just plays one: Brad Oscar (CFA’86), who replaced Nathan Lane as Max Bialystock in the Broadway blockbuster The Producers, gave an informal talk about his life in the theater to CFA students in the school of theater arts on September 10. Oscar was in Boston performing in the touring production of The Producers, at the Colonial Theatre from June 17 through September 13. As a kid growing up in Rockville, Md., Oscar participated in a summer theater program. He fell in love with the stage, and during his summer breaks at CFA would do dinner theater. Oscar played Santa Claus in a touring production of Radio City Music Hall’s Christmas Show, then was cast as a swing in The Producers. He took over the role of Franz Liebkind as well as served as Lane’s understudy before playing opposite Matthew Broderick, and then Steve Weber, as Bialystock. Photo by Fred Sway
