The icemen conquereth. The preseason coaches’ poll selecting BU to win the Hockey East regular season title this year (see story, page 12) led us on a search for a winning BU hockey team from long ago. The 1929–30 Terrier hockey season ended with BU winning the city championship, by virtue of twice defeating BC and MIT. Puck pluckiness resulted in wins against Brown, Bowdoin, Holy Cross, UNH (in those days known as NHU), and the Boston Athletic Association. There was only one defeat during the season, to Yale, in a game that was lost, according to the 1930 Hub yearbook, “because the referee could not see three offside plays. . . . Press notices gave the referee credit for the win and hinted that glasses would have helped him.” Photo from the 1930 Hub
