Kids in the kitchen: China was the focus of a four-hour cooking class held at 808 Commonwealth Ave. on January 26, as part of Educating Kids: A Cooking Up Culture Series. Chef Helen Chen provided instruction for children from 7 to 15 years old in making a variety of Chinese dishes. The day's menu included fried wontons, sweet and sour sauce for wontons, egg drop soup, sweet and sour cucumber salad, Shanghai choo choo train fried rice, beef with snow peas in oyster sauce, and ginger and lime fruit bowl. One of Chen's assistants helps (from left) Austin Lewis, 7, from Boston, Willie-Zach Mermell, 9, from Chelmsford, and Mick Costello, 15, from Cambridge. Photo by Jenny Ahlen
