Cardinal Bernard Law, archbishop of Boston, visited Boston University on January 17 to rededicate the recently restored Newman House. Built at the turn of the century, the brownstone at 211 Bay State Road, which is owned by the Archdiocese of Boston, is the location of the Catholic Center at Boston University. Named in honor of Cardinal John Henry Newman, a 19th-century English convert to Catholicism, who believed in the compatibility of Catholicism and the intellectual life, Newman House houses the offices of the Catholic chaplains, a chapel, and study and gathering spaces.
