Scholarship facilitates alum's human rights quest Prescott's efforts for justice in Kosovo helped him earn one of 18 Luce scholarships awarded this year. He was nominated by Boston University. The Luce Scholars Program is an initiative by the Henry Luce Foundation to create an awareness of Asia among potential leaders in the United States. Prescott will find out next month in which country he will spend a year. If it is China, he certainly won't be disappointed. He was there in May 2000 to help the LCHR provide an analysis of the country's revised criminal procedure law. He is still in contact with Han Dongfang, a labor rights leader who was active in the Tiananmen Square protests. Han now runs a radio program in exile in Hong Kong, offering advice and assistance to Chinese workers, who call him collect. |
