The Eleanor Sullivan Smith Scholarship Fund

John F. Smith, Jr. (GSM'65, Hon.'93) established the $600,000 Eleanor Sullivan Smith Scholarship Fund in honor of his mother. The permanently endowed fund will be used to provide annual scholarship awards to one or more full-time SMG graduate students on the basis of financial need and academic merit, with a preference for students from Worcester County. A recipient may continue to receive the award for the second academic year as long as the established criteria continue to be met.

A Worcester native, Smith became chairman of the General Motors board of directors in 1996. He served as president from April 1992 to October 1998, as chief operating officer from April 1992 to November 1992, and as chief executive officer from November 1992 to June 2000.
