Provost Dennis Berkey, dean of Arts and Sciences, presents a birthday bouquet to Leila Saad, assistant dean for academic support programs in the Office of the Vice President and Dean of Students, during a staff appreciation workshop and luncheon on February 12. Berkey launched the annual staff celebration in 1997. This year Saad was copresenter, with Kenneth Elmore, associate director of Residence Life, of a workshop entitled Communication Styles in Everyday Life. Past workshops have focused on such topics as time management, understanding the challenges international students face, and how to think creatively while under pressure. Saad has directed the University Resource Center (URC) for 10 years and is a lecturer in the College of Communication. Under her direction, the URC has designed and implemented a wide range of programs to foster the academic success of Boston University students. Photo by Vernon Doucette
