MET faculty members receive 2000 Freedom Project award Robert Cadigan, a Metropolitan College adjunct assistant professor of sociology and academic counselor, Jay Halfond, MET associate dean of academic affairs, and Paule Verdet, a College of Arts and Sciences professor emerita of sociology all of whom are involved in the BU Prison Program (see B.U. Bridge, November 17, 2000, "Inmates and faculty find joint fulfillment in MET prison course") have received the 2000 Freedom Project award. The Freedom Project is part of an international higher education initiative of the John Templeton Foundation and the Atlas Economic Research Foundation, which assists university professors in North America in the development of semester-long interdisciplinary university courses that explore issues and concepts pertaining to the notion of freedom. The award was given for the course entitled Interdisciplinary Senior Seminar on Freedom. BU lecture series a hit Tuesday Night Reflections with Faculty, a lecture series sponsored during the 1999-2000 school year by BUs Office of the Vice President and Dean of Students and coordinated by the University Resource Center and the Office of Residence Life, was recently selected as Program of the Year for the state of Massachusetts by the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators. "This award," writes Bruce E. Baker, the associations Massachusetts state director, "is presented to one institution in each New England state in recognition of a program that has been evaluated on its innovation and creativity, contribution to student and/or professional development, contribution to the home institution, and timeliness of the topic." The award was presented on November 14. |
