Edward W. Brooke (LAW’48,’50, Hon. ’68), former Massachusetts senator and attorney general, addresses a delegation of state officials and dignitaries at the dedication of a new state courthouse in Boston named in his honor on Tuesday, June 20. Brooke was an outspoken champion of the rights of women, ethnic minorities, the elderly, and the poor throughout his career. Gov. Paul Celluci, speaking at the event, said Brooke’s name belongs on the new six-story house of justice, as it “is synonymous in this state with integrity and conviction.” Added BU President Jon Westling, “We remember him for his energy, intelligence, and probity, and we are deeply proud that the qualities we saw early in his life led to those remarkable accomplishments we recognize today.” Photo by Vernon Doucette |
