Prize for the Eyes
The photographers of Boston University Photo Services,
who provide the BU Bridge with some 90 percent of its
pictures, all won prizes this summer from the University
Photographers' Association of America. In addition to the
photos reproduced here, Kalman Zabarsky took home first
prize in the environment category for his moody view of the
outer lobby of the Tsai Performance Center. Vernon Doucette
won third prize in the news and features category. His
Commencement day shot of ducklings marching across Nickerson
Field behind their mother ran in Bostonia magazine. Photo
Services as a group also took home a first prize for the
office's rate card, which displays examples of the staff's
work. You can view all the winning photos at the UPAA's Web
site:
http://www.upaa.org/services/photo.html.
Christopher Lydon, host of WBUR's
phenomenally smart talk show The Connection, was
the subject of a Bostonia profile and a portrait by
Vernon Doucette. It won a third prize in people and
portraits.

The picture (left) of Zhiping Weng, a College of
Engineering biomedical engineering instructor, was
taken for an ENG publication and won third place in
the science and research category. His study
(right) of Michelle Efros (CAS'99), a student
assistant at Special Collections, was used as the
cover image for last year's BU telephone directory
and was named best of show. Efros is shown with a
set of John James Audubon's The Birds of America.
