To the left is one of three clusters of temporary buildings the University purchased as war surplus (a sign above the student's head points to a cafeteria and to soda rooms); to the right is 270 Bay State Road. The prefab buildings and parking spaces were replaced by the George Sherman Union, the School of Law, and the grassy Warren Alpert Mall, now one of the most pleasant spots on the Charles River Campus.
