Bioinformatics Hosts 2012 International Workshop on Bioinformatics and Systems Biology
The BU Bioinformatics Graduate Program hosted the 2012 International Workshop on Bioinformatics and Systems Biology from July 22-26. The IBSB, focuses almost exclusively on student research, and has been held annually since the first workshop in Berlin in August of 2001.
Bioinformatics SoS 2012 held on June 6, 2012
The 5th Annual BU Bioinformatics Program Student-Organized Symposium was held on June 6, 2012 in the Life Science Building. The event featured five incredible scientists, including BU Bioinfo alumnus Dr. Martin Frith, who is currently a Research Scientist at the Computational Biology Research Center in Tokyo.

Bioinformatics Alumnus to Lead $13.6M Grant for Lung Cancer Detection Study
The US Department of Defense has awarded the BU Medical School a $13.6M grant for a lung cancer detection study under Principal Investigator Avrum Spira, MD (MS '02) Associate Professor of Medicine, Pathology and Bioinformatics at BUSM. See the article here.

BU Bioinformatics Researcher and Alumnus Avrum Spira named 2011 Innovator of the Year
The 2011 Innovator of the Year award was given to Dr. Avrum Spira, a BU Bioinformatics researcher and alumnus of the M.S. Program, for his development of a noninvasive method for the early detection of lung cancer. Read the article here.

BU Bioinformatics Alumnus Farren Isaacs’ Paper Makes National News (in Science, New York Times, More)
Farren Isaacs (PhD, '04), Assistant Professor of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology at Yale, recently wrote a paper entitled “Precise Manipulation of Chromosomes in Vivo Enables Genome-Wide Codon Replacement," and since its publication in the 15 July, 2011 issue of Science, it has been gaining increasing amounts of attention.
