Paul Riel

Associate Vice President

Paul Riel serves as Associate Vice President for Auxiliary Services at Boston University, where he provides strategic leadership for a broad portfolio of campus enterprises that shape the daily student experience, including student housing, residential dining, retail dining and Catering on the Charles, Terrier Card services, campus vending, and events and conferences. Since joining BU in March 2018, Paul has focused on advancing operational excellence, enhancing the residential and dining experience, and aligning auxiliary services with the university’s broader goals for student success, financial sustainability, and campus vitality.

In this role, Paul oversees major auxiliary operations that serve thousands of students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors each day. His work emphasizes innovation in campus dining and residential life, strong partnerships with external service providers, and the development of programs and facilities that strengthen the sense of community across Boston University’s urban campus.

Prior to joining Boston University, Paul served as Assistant Vice President for Residential and Dining Services at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. At Northwestern, he led the development and implementation of a $500 million housing master plan, overseeing renovations, new construction, and the creation of engagement centers designed to enhance the residential experience. He also played a key role in negotiating a comprehensive food service contract and co-chaired the Undergraduate Residential Experience Committee, which helped shape the future of undergraduate residential life.

Paul holds both a master’s degree and a Doctor of Education (EdD) from the University of North Florida.
