Pinot Noir is the noble vine variety that creates wines with perfume and delicacy—and the color of fine ruby cabochons. As the sole grape variety in red Burgundy, its wines have been prized for centuries. Pinot Noir, however, is challenging both to grow and to vinify. Its worldwide fame as a varietal wine had to wait until the early 2000s, when the knowledge of how to grow and vinify it became widespread and when its wines found worldwide recognition and appreciation. Bill Nesto, MW, will orchestrate a blind-tasting of nine Pinot Noir wines from diverse growing areas around the world, each costing about $30 retail. You will decide which ones you like best. Bill will help you to understand why.
