In the last ten days of spring, Boston-based performance art group Mobius will present five nights of live art at 808 Gallery. Mobius/808 Infuse presents each artist with the substantial challenge of creating site-sensitive artworks for the 11,000 square foot gallery. Artists are asked how can they leverage the scale and character of the space through minimal approaches and still generate depth and complexity in their work. Over twenty established and emerging artists will be participating throughout the series. Mari Novotny-Jones has been a member of the Mobius Artists Group in Boston since 1980. Her original performance work includes both solo and collaborative pieces. Her most recent international credits include participation in the various Mobius art exchanges in Macedonia, Croatia and Poland. She participated in Festival Forfest, Czech Republic, Kicevo Artist Colony, Macedonia, the Harta Festival in Monza, Italy, The 6th Annual Performance Open in Chengdu, China and Eruptio 4 Festival in Transylvania and Navinki 2007 in Belarus. Sara June has been performing in the public sphere for over 20 years. Her artistic training and influences harken from Japanese and American experimental performance methods, particularly Butoh and Body Weather Training, as well as Modern Dance, Contemporary Movement Improvisation, and Viewpoints. She has studied Butoh with Katsura Kan, Hiroko Tamano, Natsu Nakajima, Su-En, Diego Pinon, the Vangeline Theater, Deborah Butler, and Jennifer Hicks, Body Weather with Zack Fuller, Contemporary Movement Improvisation with Liz Roncka and Olivier Besson, and performance methods with Allison Wyper among others. She is a former dancer with Butoh companies the Vangeline Theater (NYC) (2006-2008) and Kitsunebutoh (BOS) (2001-2004). Sara June's work is deeply influenced by her academic and research background. She completed undergraduate training as a visual artist (Rhode Island School of Design) in 1997, and graduate training in Developmental Psychology (Harvard University) in 2005, and Clinical Social Work (Boston University) in 2011. Max Lord is a Boston-based improvisor who has worked in a variety of rock, noise, electronic and improv settings. Though originally identifying as a percussionist, since 2000 he has performed with Buchla electronic instruments including the Marimba Lumina, an exotic mallet controller. His recorded work as Ghost Grass recalls mid-century electronic experimentation as often as more modern improvised approaches, and is intimately tied to the magnetic medium on which it is created.
