In 2022, the number of people worldwide who had fled their communities because of war, persecution, climate change, and other disasters surpassed 100 million, according to the UN Refugee Agency. Such upheaval represents a global challenge for our time. Our new Center On Forced Displacement will confront that challenge. Led by Howard Hughes Medical Institute Professor Muhammad Zaman, the center brings together researchers, practitioners, and artists to illuminate involuntary relocation, clarify policies and practices that exacerbate or alleviate human suffering, and generate ethical interventions to improve lives.
