Music Education Lab Choral

Required for all music education majors (2 semesters, one per year). Within a laboratory environment focused on peer teaching, video recording, and just-in- time feedback, instruction in vocal/choral methods progresses through a variety of music teacher preparation experiences, including but not limited to: understanding how the voice works in speaking and singing; voice development across the lifespan; caring for the voice; using singing as a model in any music teaching situation; incorporating appropriate vocal technique into choral rehearsal; selection of choral repertoire to promote artistic development; score preparation/analysis; conducting; and rehearsal procedures. Also incorporated will be use of the school chorus or group voice class as an appropriate environment for English Language Learners. 3 credits, repeatable, to a maximum of 6 credits.
