• SED SE 502: Behavioral and Emotional Problems: Characteristics and Methods
  Introduces students to childhood emotional and behavioral disorders. Students will identify questions to ask if they believe a student may have an emotional/behavioral disorder, identify resources within the educational system and the broader mental health system, and discuss evidence-based interventions. 4 cr.
• SED SE 503: Learning Disabilities: Characteristics and Methods
  Students will develop and demonstrate their knowledge regarding the etiology, characteristics and methods for teaching students with learning disabilities. 4 cr. Fall
• SED SE 504: An Introduction to Early Childhood Disabilities
  Students acquire and demonstrate their knowledge of the etiology, history, service delivery models, and issues and trends relating to young children with disabilities. 2 cr.
• SED SE 505: An Introduction to Severe Disabilities
  Student acquire and demonstrate their understanding of the etiology, history, service delivery models, and issues and trends related to education, transition to and life as individuals with severe disabilities. 2 cr.
• SED SE 507: Early Childhood Disabilities/Severe Disabilities: Assessment and Instructional Planning
  Designed to develop knowledge and skills related to goal-setting, instructional planning, implementation, and evaluation of students with early childhood disabilities and severe disabilities. Emphasis on collaboration and cross-cultural competence. Prereq: SE 504/505. 4 cr.
• SED SE 508: Early Childhood Disabilities/Sever Disabilities: Curriculum and Methods
  Designed to develop knowledge and skill related to designing curricular content and instructional methods for students with early childhood disabilities and severe disabilities. Includes strategies for facilitating development in the following areas: motor, communication, social, self-care, academic, vocational, and special health care needs. Prereq: SE 507. 4 cr.
• SED SE 510: Special Education: Curriculum and Instruction
  Designed to develop an understanding of the historical background and legal framework of special education, various disabilities, instructional practices and behavioral support strategies. Focus will be on middle- and high-school students. 2 cr.
• SED SE 515: Assessment in Special Education: Procedures
  Designed to develop the knowledge and skill related to the assessment of students who are in or being referred to special education for educational support services. Prereq: SE 250 and LR 503. 2 cr.
• SED SE 533: The Families of Children with Special Needs
  Examines the nature of families and how families evolve with the presence of a child with a disability. Students will develop an understanding of family systems theory, specific strategies, and evidence-based approaches to collaborating with families of children with disabilities. 4 cr.
• SED SE 534: Classroom and Behavior Management
  Designed to develop an understanding of the theoretical basis and implementation strategies of effective classroom and behavior management for students with and without disabilities. Positive behavioral intervention and supports (PBIS) will be used as the overarching framework for school-wide, classroom, and individualized approaches that are used to build and maintain environments that provide positive and pro- active behavioral supports for all learners. 2 cr.
• SED SE 535: Understanding Autism
  Students will describe the defining characteristics, school experiences, and evidence- based practices for teaching and supporting individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The course includes perspectives from individuals with ASD and their families. 2 cr.
• SED SE 580: Methods and Materials in Special Education: General
  Students will acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to design, implement and evaluate individualized educational program for students with mild/moderate disabilities, Prek-8. Prereq: Only open to matriculated students who have completed prerequisites. 4 cr.
• SED SE 584: Methods and Materials: Moderate Disabilities, 5-12
  Students will acquire the relevant knowledge and skill to design, implement, and evaluate individualized educational programs for students, grades 5-12, including transition planning and career readiness. Only open to matriculated students who have completed prerequisites. 4 cr.
• SED SE 593: Practicum/Practicum Equivalent:Students with Moderate Disabilities, Pre-K-8
  Students will demonstrate skills in planning, implementing, and evaluating instruction for students with mild/moderate disabilities, PreK-8. Student teaching experience (300-hour minimum) and accompanying seminar. Only open to matriculated students who have completed prerequisites. 8 cr.
• SED SE 594: Practicum/Practicum Equivalent: Students with Moderate Disabilities, 5-12
  Students will demonstrate skills in planning, implementing, and evaluating instruction for students with mild/moderate disabilities, grades 5-12. Student teaching experience (300- hour minimum) and accompanying seminar. Only open to matriculated students who have completed prerequisites. 8 cr.
• SED SE 595: Practicum/Practicum Equivalent: Student with Severe Disabilities, Pre-K-12
  Students will demonstrate skills in planning, implementing, and evaluating instruction for students with severe disabilities, ages 3-21. Student teaching experience (300-hour minimum) and accompanying seminar. Only open to matriculated students who have completed prerequisites. 8 cr.
• SED SE 597: Practicum for Teaching Professionals-Moderate Prek - 8
  Students will demonstrate skills in planning, implementing, and evaluating instruction for students with mild/moderate disabilities, PreK - 8 through student teaching experience (300 hour minimum). 4 cr.
• SED SE 598: Practicum for Teaching Professionals-Moderate 5-12
  Students will demonstrate skills in planning, implementing, and evaluating instruction for students with moderate disabilities, grades 5-12. Designed for practitioners. Student teaching experience (300-hour minimum) and accompanying seminar. Only open to matriculated students who have completed prerequisites. 8 cr.
• SED SE 601: Parent and Professional Collaboration
  Students will demonstrate their understanding of importance of and effective strategies for collaborating with parents and professionals of individuals with special needs. 2 cr.
• SED SE 613: Field Work in Special Education: Moderate Disabilities
  Pre-practicum experience in which students will develop observational skills regarding students with moderate disabilities and the settings in which they learn, and will use their observations to plan and implement lesson with student in that setting. 50 hours of fieldwork plus seminar. 2 cr.
