This course will consider a range of issues related to possible ways the Episcopal Church might move forward with a revision of the current 1979 Book of Common Prayer. Topics to be considered deal with the contents of the book (including but not limited to the liturgical calendar, the language used for people and for God, the crafting of prayers, the wording of rubrics, the provision of multiple Eucharistic Prayers, the shape of the Daily Office, and the translation of the Psalter) as well as with the manner of publication (printed book vs. online resource, and points between). Particular attention will be given to the tension between historical continuity and responsiveness to the perceived needs of the present day and the future.
