Topic will vary. May be taken more than once for credit with different topics. Topic for Fall 2018: Explores the interface between gradability and quantification, and how tensions at this interface play out across a wide range of languages. Discussion of multiple theoretical perspectives on both gradability and quantity expressions, and investigation of cross-linguistic variation through fieldwork projects.
