PDP GS 150: Cricket, beginning
Beginning level course including the history and rules of cricket. Basic skills will be explored with an emphasis on batting, bowling and fielding techniques. By the end of the course, students will be familiar ith the fundamentals of cricket and be able to participate in practice games. Equipment will be provided. Spring semester only. -
PDP GS 200: Intermediate Volleyball
Intermediate/advanced class intended for those who have had exposure to competitive volleyball. Students are expected to be able to serve/pass/set consistently, be able to hit roll shots, and be familiar with the 4-2 rotation. Basic skills are briefly reviewed and practiced, but students are expected to already be familiar with them. Various offenses and defenses (5- 1 and 6-2 may be taught and incorporated into class scrimmages). Class time will be primarily spent on implementing skills during scrimmages. (If unsure about which level you belong in, please register for a lower level as it is easier to move you up than down). 1 cr. either sem. -
PDP GS 208: Gymnastics, Intermediate
Prereq: PDP GS 108 or consent of the instructor. Intermediate-level students work to improve existing skills and achieve specific goals on floor and other apparatus. -
PDP GS 210: Intermediate Tennis
Course is designed to review and expand skills learned in Beginning Tennis (GS 110). Students will build on fundamental strokes and techniques with lessons on topspin, slicing and utilizing them in interactive play and match situations. -
PDP GS 212: Intermediate Squash
Experienced players who have mastered the fundamentals are encouraged to try our Intermediate Class. Sequential-shot exercises designed to isolate regions of the court are blended with 2- and 3-shot option drills to simulate real-time match play. Tricky trouble-spots and common errors are re-assessed and players will score and referee each other to better understand interference situations as well as proper clearing (deciding lets and strokes); short round-robin games will typically round-out each session. Loose athletic clothing, non-marking sneakers and lensed polycarbonate eye- protection are required. -
PDP GS 222: Boxing Technique
This class focuses on refining a student's current Boxing skills while utilizing a more technique-based conditioning component. The class will include offensive and defensive drills and will improve upon the 14 punches taught in Boxing (PDP GS 122). Students will have the ability to work on bag skills with heavy bags and manikins on occasion. -
PDP GS 238: Billiards, Intermediate/Advanced
An in depth look into the game of pool that includes reworking and strengthening fundamentals as well as understanding the principles and consequences of "english" and "throw", learning to "read" the table and thinking three or more position steps ahead. -
PDP GS 300: Advanced Volleyball
Advanced class intended for those who have had years of exposure to competitive volleyball. Intermediate skills are reviewed and practiced and complex offenses and defenses are incorporated into class scrimmages. Class time will be primarily spent on practicing skills during scrimmages. PDP HE 102: LEAD BU: Building Wellness & Academic Skills for Success
LEAD BU is a wellness, resilience, and academic skills-building class designed to support your health and your life as a student through practicing skills and strategies for stress hardiness and academic success. LEAD stands for Learn, Explore, Access, and Develop, and throughout the semester, you will learn your personal strengths, values, and interests, practice skills for healthy interpersonal relationships, and explore various domains of wellness and strategies for self-care and self-determination, in a structured and supportive environment. You will also investigate your personal learning styles, study and test-taking strategies and practice various approaches to self-advocacy, planning, and SMART goal setting. -
PDP MA 103: Tae Kwon Do, Beginning
An ancient Korean art of self-defense. In Beginners Tae Kwon Do, we emphasize whole body and mental fitness through training in strength and conditioning, flexibility, endurance, basic upper body and lower body techniques, which include forms, stances, punches, blocks, kicks, and strikes; basic sparring skills, forms, and self-defense techniques. The practice of Tae Kwon Do develops character through courtesy, self-control, discipline, self-confidence, patience, physical fitness, attention, mental alertness, leadership, humility, perseverance, and respect. -
PDP MA 107: Beginning Kung Fu
This course will provide a foundation for learning Kung Fu through warm-up exercises (calisthenics/stretches), basic stances and drills, self-defense routines (forms) and general commands in Cantonese. The course is designed to improve your physical abilities, mental toughness and provide a rewarding experience of studying Kung Fu for students of all levels. -
PDP MA 203: Tae Kwon Do, Intermediate
Students who have completed Beginners Tae Kwon Do course or have prior experience in Tae Kwon Do or related martial arts, can continue training in Intermediate Tae Kwon Do. In Intermediate Tae Kwon Do, students will continue to train whole body and mental fitness as in Beginners Tae Kwon Do, and at a higher level and higher intensity of training in strength and conditioning, flexibility, and endurance. Students will also learn more advanced and finer basic upper body and lower body techniques, in forms, stances, punches, blocks, strikes, kicks, spinning kicks, jumping kicks; sparring techniques and strategies, forms, and self-defense. The practice of Tae Kwon Do develops character through courtesy, self-control, discipline, self-confidence, patience, physical fitness, attention, mental alertness, leadership, humility, perseverance, and respect. -
PDP MA 207: Intermediate Kung Fu
Students who have taken MA107 or have previous Martial Arts experience will reinforce their studies and increase their skills with new material. The course is designed to improve your physical abilities and mental toughness, and provide a rewarding experience of studying Kung Fu for students of all skill levels and experience. -
PDP MB 100: T'ai Chi, Beginning
A classical system of martial arts and exercise developed in China 700 years ago. It is characterized by fluid and slow movements designed to cultivate internal energy, balance yin and yang, develop body flexibility, and promote efficient and healthful body movement. -
PDP MB 101: Hatha Yoga, Beginning
This slow, fluid, graceful exercise helps develop muscle tone, flexibility, coordination, balance, slow deep breathing, and deep relaxation. -
PDP MB 102: Ashtanga Yoga
The Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga is a beginner level sequence of yoga postures linked with movement and breath, designed to bring strength, flexibility and stamina to the body and tranquility to the mind. The class features a warm-up sequence including sun salutations, the first half of Primary Series, relaxation techniques and meditation. -
PDP MB 103: Mindful Zen Meditation
Includes sitting, breathing exercises and interactive exercise to gain insight into ourselves and be more relaxed and awake for our day-to-day life. -
PDP MB 104: Sivananda Yoga
In addition to a typical class with breathing exercises, sun salutations, 12 basic asanas and deep relaxation, the focus is on mastery of the asanas from which variations are then added to further deepen the practice. These asanas allow for the systematic movement of every major part of the body in a balanced way that enhances prana or life force energy, keeping the mind quiet. Additional variations may also be taught. -
PDP MB 105: Gentle Restorative Yoga
This is a hatha/kripalu style class with the focus on breathing, long periods of holding postures, and variations of posture flows that are gentler on the neck, wrists, knees, and back. Each class will focus on posture options to protect students that have chronic pain or are working through an injury and using breathing techniques to ease into a meditative mindset. The end of class concludes with a 10 minute savasana. -
PDP MB 106: Guided Yoga Meditation
Meditation is a technique for making the mind more stable, peaceful and clear and for developing insight and good qualities. Learn and practice a variety of guided meditations from the yoga tradition including meditation on the breath, visualization, mantra meditation and mindfulness meditation.
