In-Service Seminar: Pastoral Care

STH TI 813

This course will introduce students to the ministry of pastoral caring, which is the work of the whole community of faith. Openness to one another through mutual care and concern and to the guidance and presence of God are central features of caring communities. Particular attention will be given to listening and communication skills together with a life span and faith community approach to issues of pastoral care and counseling. Pastoral care will be imagined as a life giving collective endeavor, requiring a tender shepherding by the pastor or leader that respects the uniqueness and diversity of each setting. Connections between theology and practice will be developed through online discussion posts, book summaries, and case studies (including theological reflections).
