• SED SE 535: Understand Autism
  Students will describe the defining characteristics, school experiences, and evidence-based practices for teaching and supporting individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The course includes perspectives from individuals with ASD and their family. 2 cr. Fall and Summer
• SED SE 580: Methods and Materials in Special Education: General
  Students will acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to design, implement and evaluate individualized educational program for students with mild/moderate disabilities, aged Prek-8. 4 cr, Fall and Spring
• SED SE 584: Methods and Materials: Moderate Disabilities, 5-12
  Students will acquire the relevant knowledge and skill to design implement and evaluate individualized educational programs for students, grades 5 - 12, including transition planning and career readiness. 4 cr. Fall and Spring
• SED SE 593: Practicum/Practicum Equivalent:Students with Moderate Disabilities, Pre-K-8
  Students will demonstrate skills in planning, implementing, and evaluating instruction for students with mild/moderate disabilities, PreK - 8 through Student teaching experience (300 hour minimum) and accompanying seminar. . 8 cr. Fall and Spring
• SED SE 594: Practicum/Practicum Equivalent: Students with Moderate Disabilities, 5-12
  Students will demonstrate skills in planning, implementing, and evaluating instruction for students with mild/moderate disabilities, grades 5-12 through student teaching experience (300 hour minimum) and accompanying seminar. 8 cr. Fall and Spring
• SED SE 595: Practicum/Practicum Equivalent: Student with Severe Disabilities, Pre-K-12
  Student-teaching experience in schools, day and residential settings. Seminar in classroom practices. Minimum 300 hours. 8cr, either sem.
• SED SE 598: Practicum for Teaching Professionals-Moderate 5-12
  Students will demonstrate skills in planning, implementing, and evaluating instruction for students with mild/moderate disabilities,5-12 through student teaching experience (300 hours). 4 cr. Fall and Spring
• SED SE 601: Parent and Professional Collaboration
  Students will demonstrate their understanding of importance of and effective strategies for collaborating with parents and professionals of individuals with special needs. 2 cr.
• SED SE 613: Field Work in Special Education: Moderate Disabilities
  Pre-practicum experience in which students will develop observational skills regarding students with mild/moderate disabilities and the settings in which they learn, and will use their observations to plan and implement lesson with student in that setting. Minimum of 50 hours of field work and accompanying seminar.
• SED SE 615: Fieldwork in Special Education: Severe Disabilities
  Pre-practicum experience in which students will develop observational skills regarding students with severe disabilities and the settings in which they learn, and will use their observations to plan and implement lesson with student in that setting. Minimum of 50 hours of field work and accompanying seminar.
• SED SE 650: Children at Risk
  Advances knowledge of theories, research, and practice about children and adolescents whose physical and psychological well being is at risk. Course literature will be drawn from research and theory on normal child and adolescent development, as well as from work on disorders in children and adolescents. Topics include: poverty, substance abuse, the institutionalization of children, adoption, mental illness, school dropouts, physical and emotional abuse, domestic violence, and children will special needs. 4cr, Spring.
• SED SE 693: Practicum in Disabilities Studies
  Through fieldwork experience and corresponding seminar, students develop an understanding of human services agencies serving individuals with disabilities and the nature and processes of service provision, roles and responsibilities, and collaboration. Variable credit. Fall and Spring.
• SED SE 702: Clinical Practice:Special Education Administration
  Required of students who wish to apply for licensure as an Administrator of Special Education. Integrates content-area knowledge and pedagogical theory and practice. Builds upon the practicum experience. A minimum of 400 hours is required. Instructor permission required.
• SED SE 706: Introduction to Special Education
  Students will demonstrate their understanding of the characteristics and etiologies of disabilities, their functional and academic implications, and the experiences of individuals with disabilities and their families. They will also learn about and describe special education policy, process, and practice. 4cr, Fall
• SED SE 744: School Administration and Special Needs
  Ways in which school cultures deal with disabilities and deviance. School structures and administration of special education programs as they affect individuals with special needs. Analysis of effective and ineffective school administration and classroom management. 4cr, 2nd sem.
• SED SE 751: Assessment in Special Education: Procedures
  Designed to develop the knowledge and skill related to the assessment of students who are in or being referred to special education. Includes legal issues, culturally- and linguistically-responsive practices, various types of assessments in multiple domains, test administration procedures, scoring, interpreting, and reporting of results. 4 cr. Spring, Summer
• SED SE 760: Special Education: Cognition, Learning, and Behavior
  Designed to develop an understanding of the theories of learning and how these theories have informed the development of instructional strategies that are frequently used with students with disabilities. 2 cr. 1st sem.
• SED SE 807: Field Experience
  Graduate students are involved in field experiences in schools, institutions, clinics, and other human services agencies. Concurrent seminars discuss strategies of intervention and/or curriculum planning or assessment procedures. Students must register for a minimum of 2 credits. 2cr, 1st sem.
