A survey of graphic design history from the time of Gutenberg until the present. Emphasis is placed on the growth of graphic design as a communicative, expressive, and artistic medium. Lectures are accompanied by slides, and there are required assignments and examinations throughout the semester. In addition, each student prepares a written and illustrated report on a subject of his or her choice related to graphic design history. 4 cr, 1st semester.
