Advanced level Latin seminar emphasizing close reading and literary analysis. Changing topics explore a variety of texts linked by chronology, genre, or theme. Topic for Fall 2016: Plautus. A focus on the work of Plautus, one of two extant practitioners of Roman Comedy. We explore the poet's distinctive style and sense of humor by analyzing the language, themes, and stagecraft of his plays. Students read at least one complete play and a diverse selection of scenes.
