Seminar: Topics in Hispanic Literature

Four topics are offered 2015/2016. Students may take one, two, three, or four for credit. Fall 2015 Section A1: Revolution in Intellectual Thought and Popular Film. Through a selection of representative texts (literature, film, and theory), this seminar explores the convergence of intellectual thought and popular film in connection to various ways of conceptualizing revolution. The vantage point is the visual archive of revolutionary Mexico. Fall 2015 Section B1: Stories of Jesus: Religion and Ideology in Spanish Literature (1895-1953). Readings include: Nazarín, by Benito Pérez Galdós, El Cristo de Velázquez, by Miguel de Unamuno, Luces de Bohemia, by Ramón del Valle-Inclán, and Requiem por un campesino español, by Ramón Sender.
