The history of African Americans from African origins to present time; consideration of societies in West and West Central Africa from which enslaved Africans originated, slavery and freedom in colonial America, Civil War and Reconstruction, freedom and struggles in a globalizing America from Reconstruction to Civil Rights and beyond.
