What would it be to give an account of Christianity as a whole? The course will approach this and related questions first by analyzing some aspects of the classical debate about the nature of Christianity that ensued after the publication in 1900 of Harnack's popular lectures on das wesen des Christentums, and then following that line of questioning via works from Loisy, Troeltsch, Kng, and Hampson.
