Ethics and Professionalism--The Professional Officer

Formal introduction to the profession of arms: its characteristics, obligations, benefits, and responsibilities. Emphasis is on development of an understanding of the need for ethical conduct, and an awareness of and sensitivity toward ethical issues. Discussions based upon case studies and readings are used to develop understanding of personal and professional values, values conflict, and ethical dilemmas that confront the professional officer. An essay on professionalism and values based upon outside reading of a book selected by the PMS is required, in addition to normal classroom work. One class period and one two-hour lab weekly.
