This seminar is intended to provide an overview of the core components of the practice of real estate law, with an emphasis on the role of a young attorney in such practice. Topics to be covered include: zoning and permitting, title and survey, sales and acquisitions, finance, and contemporary issues such as the sub-prime mortgage crisis and affordable housing. Most course assignments will involve case-studies based on recent, local real estate transactions. This seminar will also incorporate speakers from the private and public realms of real estate law and will culminate in a session dedicated to strategies for being an effective, young attorney in the field. NOTE: This seminar does not satisfy the Upper-class Writing Requirement. NOTE: This seminar satisfies the upper-class professional skills requirement. ** A student who fails to attend the initial meeting of a seminar (designated by an (S) in the title), or to obtain permission to be absent from either the instructor or the Registrar, may be administratively dropped from the seminar. Students who are on a wait list for a seminar are required to attend the first seminar meeting to be considered for enrollment.
