• CFA DR 267: Lighting Design 1
  Prereq: CFA DR 153 & 154 or DR 453 & 454 or consent of instructor. Introduction to the art and craft of lighting design for the stage. Explores the lighting design process, how to develop lighting ideas, concepts, and visual images from a text, and how to support those ideas to the point of realization. Required Labs will supplement class work with hands-on activities.
• CFA DR 268: Lighting Design 1

• CFA DR 269: Vectorworks I
  Prereq: CFA DR 165 or consent of instructor. Studio work introduction to basic CAD drafting using Vectorworks. 1 cr.
• CFA DR 270: Vectorworks II
  Prereq: CFA DR 269 or CFA DR 869 or consent of instructor. Advanced work in Vectorworks CAD; specific rendering techniques for the individual area of lighting and the light plot. 1 cr.
• CFA DR 271: Sound Design I
  Prereq: consent of instructor. An overview of theatrical sound design, focusing on the process of creating a design. The emphasis is on sound cue creation, establishing mood, emotion and environment with sound, and critical listening. Covers the basics of the tools and technology used to implement a professional sound design. 3 cr.
• CFA DR 272: Sound Design II
  Prereq: CFA DR 271 or CFA DR 571 or consent of instructor. Project based, explores soundscape design outside the theatrical context. Creation of sounds and soundscapes will be accompanied by performance in class followed by discussion. Lab work is required. 3 cr.
• CFA DR 273: Costume Design 1
  Prereq: CFA DR 153 & 154 or CFA DR 453 & 454 or consent of instructor. Fundamentals of costume design. Exercises focus on analysis-designing from the inside out. Covers a range of visual, written, and verbal techniques of communication; script analysis, style, research techniques, and rendering skills. Readings and projects may incorporate all theatre genres.

• CFA DR 275: Costume Production I
  Prereq: CFA DR 161 & 162 or consent of instructor. An in-depth study of pattern making for the female silhouette. Draping and flat patterning techniques are augmented with historical research in pattern development. The student develops a thorough understanding of the form and function of each element of the female costume. 3 cr.
• CFA DR 276: Costume Production I
  Prereq: CFA DR 161 & 162 or consent of instructor. An in-depth study of pattern making for the female silhouette. Draping and flat patterning techniques are augmented with historical research in pattern development. The student develops a thorough understanding of the form and function of each element of the female costume. 3 cr.
• CFA DR 277: Costume Rendering Lab
  Prereq: advisor recommendation or consent of instructor. Advanced work in figure drawing; specific rendering techniques for costume design. May be repeated for credit. 1 cr.
• CFA DR 278: Figure Drawing
  Prereq: none. Studio work in figure drawing. May be repeated for credit. 1 cr.
• CFA DR 311: Voice and Speech III
  Prereq: 211, 212. An exploration of a variety of approaches to Shakespeare's text, with an attempt to unify form and content. Developing and strengthening the voice and exploring the anatomy of language. Vowels and consonants, words and images, phrasing, and the intelligent orchestration of these components into overall meaning. The figures of speech, iamic pentameter, rhythm, line endings, verse and prose. 1 cr, 1st semester.
• CFA DR 316: Voice and Speech/LAMDA
  Students will develop an understanding of vocal anatomy and physiology (with particular reference to the organs of speech), an understanding of the International Phonetic Alphabet and Cardinal Vowels, as well as analysis of their own accents. In addition, students will develop knowledge and practice of Stage Standard English (Received Pronunciation), release of unhelpful vocal tension, develop an understanding of clear articulation, and the ability to phonetically transcribe nonsense words.
• CFA DR 321: Acting III
  Prereq: CFA DR 221, 222. Creating and sustaining characters and action in elevated and poetic texts from major periods of theatre history. Emphasis on organic interrelation of acting, speech, and movement. Actor explores deeply the demands made by form and content of each script. 3 cr. each semester.
• CFA DR 323: A Physical Approach to Acting – Advanced
  A further examination of a physical approach to acting building upon the work of the previous semesters. Independently motivated investigation of principles in action will be encouraged. The opportunity for each actor to deepen his/her work through continued exploration of psycho-physical connections will arise. Rigorous physical training, object exploration, vocal proposal experimentation, creation and execution of physical action scores. Application to text and character work and the making of a montage in collaboration with fellow actors. Prereq: DR222 or DR223; 3.0 credits
• CFA DR 324: Theatre Ensemble III: Directors Project
  In this acting/directing workshop, a series of scene assignments and short plays provide students with multiple opportunities to exercise and enhance their rehearsal and performance skills. The course emphasizes diagnosing and addressing rehearsal challenges. The workshop culminates in presentation of an evening of short plays acted and directed (and, when feasible, written) by students. 3.0 credits
• CFA DR 326: Acting Restoration/ LAMDA
  Students in these courses will develop a sustained focus in class work, rehearsals and scene showings, while learning to translate feelings and experience into characterization. Emphasis is placed on awareness of weight, space and time with respect to character, as well as liberated imagination, to develop freedom to explore a character. Improvisation and short scene study develop awareness of different classical styles of play writing, with research and presentation of different social relationships.
• CFA DR 327: Acting Shakespeare/ LAMDA
  Students in these courses will develop a sustained focus in class work, rehearsals and scene showings, while learning to translate feelings and experience into characterization. Emphasis is placed on awareness of weight, space and time with respect to character, as well as liberated imagination, to develop freedom to explore a character. Improvisation and short scene study develop awareness of different classical styles of play writing, with research and presentation of different social relationships.
• CFA DR 334: Principles of Choreography
  Using concepts of space, rhythm, text, and content in putting movement together for theatre and dance. 2.0 Credits
