• CFA AR 580: History of Graphic Design
  A survey of graphic design history from the time of Gutenberg until the present. Emphasis is placed on the growth of graphic design as a communicative, expressive, and artistic medium. Lectures are accompanied by slides, and there are required assignments and examinations throughout the semester. In addition, each student prepares a written and illustrated report on a subject of his or her choice related to graphic design history. 4 cr, 1st semester.
• CFA AR 581: Web Design
  This course will immerse you in the process of planning and designing web sites. The course is structured within the same methodology that is used by most Internet strategy and web design firms. We will focus on the tasks and deliverables associated with each phase of the process - from project definition to site structure to visual design. Throughout the course, we will also discuss, review and experience/learn the fundamentals of all the tools associated with the planning, designing and launching of a web site including Adobe’s Creative Suite, MindJet’s MindManager and more. This class does not teach programming. 4cr, 1st and 2nd semester.
• CFA AR 681: Web Design
  This course addresses the principles, problems, and applications of website design. Web page design tools utilizing HTML text editors and visual design programs such as Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe ImageReady, Macromedia Dreamweaver, and Macromedia Flash MX are introduced. Emphasis is placed on design concepts, site architecture, navigation, interactivity, animation, and bandwidth to create a published World Wide Web site. Open to undergraduate and graduate graphic design students. This class does not teach programming. 2 or 4 cr.
• CFA AR 747: Advanced Printmaking
  Printmaking workshop for intensive professional study of printmaking processes. Emphasis on development of individual methods and projects.
• CFA AR 748: Advanced Printmaking
  Prereq: CFA AR 451, 452, or equivalent. Open to graduate students and qualified undergraduates with consent of instuctor. Printmaking workshop for intensive professional study of printmaking processes. Emphasis on development of individual methods and projects. 4 cr, each semester.
• CFA AR 767: Art Education: Clinical Practicum
  Open to students with faculty approval. Students are placed in cooperating instructional sites under the supervision of a cooperating practitioner or a mentor and the University faculty. 400 clock hours. 4 cr, each semester.
• CFA AR 861: Seminar: Clinical Art Education
  Taken in conjunction with CFA AR 767. Examination of historical, sociological, philosophical, and psychological issues relevant to determining goals in art education. 2 cr, each semester.
• CFA AR 864: Teaching Art in Grades Pre K-8
  Primarily for graduate students and experienced professionals. The course aims to help students evolve a personal philosophy of teaching and offers an analytical study of fundamental artistic concepts and ideas along with procedures for selecting and translating knowledge into forms that support children's learning. Special topics include the evolution of artistic-aesthetic capacities relative to linguistic, cognitive, social, and emotional growth and development; consideration of contemporary goals, practices, and ideas in art education; lesson planning sequencing and classroom management including the integration of community resources. Substantial field-based experience included. 4 cr, 1st semester. Requires off-campus site visits.
• CFA AR 865: Art Curriculum Planning
  Study of contemporary techniques for implementation of goals in planning curricula and programs of study for all levels Pre-K-8 and 5-12. Includes consideration of scope and sequence in relation to stages of development, and community and individual needs. A substantial terminal written project required. 4 cr, 2nd semester.
• CFA AR 866: Teaching Art in Grades 5-12
  Primarily for graduate students and experienced teachers. Philosophy and goals for preadolescent through adolescent art education, based on values in art and cognitive-affective development in children. Includes lesson planning, management, communication, relation to academic skills, and the use of community resources in relation to the ages, individual backgrounds, and special needs of children. Substantial field-based experiences are included. 4 cr, 2nd semester. Requires off-campus site visits.
• CFA AR 961: Directed Study: Art Education
  Prereq: matriculation in art education graduate program. Thesis preparation, research methods, and discussion of proposed graduate projects or theses. Individual session with thesis readers alternates with group sessions. Independent study may be undertaken or assigned. Variable cr, each semester.
• CFA AR 962: Directed Study: Art Education
  Prereq: matriculation in art education graduate program. Thesis preparation, research methods, and discussion of proposed graduate projects or theses. Individual session with thesis readers alternates with group sessions. Independent study may be undertaken or assigned. Variable cr, each semester.
• CFA DR 099: Matinee
  A required, non-credit course for all Acting and Theatre Arts majors each semester. Arranged time for a variety of enrichment opportunities: HTC matinees, master classes, school performances, special events, etc.
• CFA DR 100: Introduction to Dramatic Literature I
  An intensive examination of scripts from diverse periods and genres. Emphasis is placed on the development of the analytical and interpretive skills necessary for the creation of insightful theatre. 3.0 credits – Fall semester only
• CFA DR 101: Introduction to Dramatic Literature II
  A survey of the development of theatre – its plays, trends, and technologies – from the Greeks to the late nineteenth century. Emphasis is on the total theatrical event, what the performance might have been, and how it might have related to its audience. 3.0 credits – Spring semester only
• CFA DR 111: Voice and Speech 1
  A thorough exploration of the voicein context of human communication. The course provides a provides a progression of exercises to free, develop and strengthen the voice, first as a human instrument, then as the actor's instrument. How the voice works, why it doesn't, self-observation, relaxation vs. tension, physical awareness, breath, sound, freeing the channel, releasing the voice from the body, self-expression, interpersonal communication, and autobiographical storytelling. 2.0 Credits. 1st semester.
• CFA DR 112: Voice and Speech 1
  Having begun to free the voice and connect it with one's own words and expereinces, poetic texts will now be used that make a demand on the range, power and vitality of the vocie and the truthful communication of self will be the touchstone for the truthfulness with which the actor can communicate someone other than him or herself. Continuing to free and strengthen the voice and introducing the development of the resonators, breath, power, range and articulation. 2 Credits. 2nd semester.
• CFA DR 115: Introduction to Theatre Speech
  Prereq: consent of instructor. Speech techniques for the stage: relaxation, breath control, resonance, articulation, projection. Physiology of the vocal tract. Tuning the ear to fine speech. Regular vocal exercise and preparation of readings in prose, poetry, and dramatic monologue. 4 cr.
• CFA DR 116: Theater Ensemble I
  Theater Ensemble I course is designed to develop and create a short theater piece. Students will participate collaboratively and creatively as actors, writers, musicians, directors, etc. Students will learn the basic skills of actor performance as well as the basic principles of an ensemble theatrical experience.
• CFA DR 119: Twentieth-Century Dance History
  An introduction to the people, events, and masterworks that shaped the development of dance in the twentieth century. Course include lectures, viewing videos and films, select readings and discussions. Course does not presuppose a technical knowledge of dance. 2 cr. 1st sem. (also listed as PDP DA 119)
