The War on Drugs perpetuates multiple forms of oppression and intersects with virtually every social issue.
Come join us for a thought-provoking and eye-opening panel discussion with a professor of Women's Studies, a professor of Latin American Cultures, a psychedelic researcher, and a queer anarchist Unitarian Universalist minister. There will be a Q&A following the panel speakers' presentations.
Deborah Belle will be discussing the additional stresses faced by women who are imprisoned for a drug crime, including separation from children and childbirth while shackled. She will also discuss ways in which the incarceration of so many men of color affects all the members of their communities.
Peter S. Cahn will be describing the impact of drug interdiction policies on indigenous ceremonial use of coca in the Andes as well as how the increased drug violence affects urban populations in Mexico.
Rick Doblin, the founder and president of the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies, will speak about Post-Prohibition harm reduction and about MDMA/PTSD research in veterans, as well as the federal obstruction of medical marijuana research.
Rev. Jason Lydon will focus on the functionality of the War on Drugs, its impact on LGBTQ people, the role of white supremacy, and the role of queer politics in shaping a comprehensive fight against it. |
