Taiwanese Teacher Training Program

General Information

Program Dates: July 8 – August 11

CORE ENGLISH CLASS
M/W/F   9:00 – 10:55 a.m.   |   T/TH 9:00 a.m-12:40 p.m.
(15 hours per week)

Students will be integrated into the morning English Language and Culture core classes according to their level of English proficiency. The other students in the class represent a variety of countries and cultures. The core class focuses on all English skill areas including reading, writing, speaking, listening and vocabulary development. Boston and U.S. culture will be part of the curriculum.

Each student will prepare a written summary of what they learned in core and their other classes. This will be due the final week of the program.

 

ELECTIVE ENGLISH CLASS: English Teaching Methodology             
M/W/F   11:15 a.m. – 12:40 p.m.
(5 hours per week)

Students will be assigned to one of two elective groups based on their English proficiency. Each group will be taught by two different teachers.

The topics which will be covered in the elective class include:

  • Techniques for teaching each skill: reading, writing, listening and speaking
  • An integrated skill approach
  • A content-based approach
  • Learner centered instruction and group work
  • Lesson planning
  • Technology as an aid in instruction
  • Developing materials
  • Choosing from published materials
  • Curriculum design
  • Classroom management techniques
  • Assessment of learners

PRACTICUM: ENGLISH TEACHING WORKSHOP                        
T/Th   2:00 – 3:30 p.m.
(3 hours per week)

The practicum is intended to give students the chance to practice what they have been learning. Students will prepare and deliver English lessons on a variety of skills and topics to different groups at CELOP.

 

REFLECTION/DISCUSSION SECTION
Monday 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
(2 hours per week)

These weekly discussions will enable students to share their ideas about what they have been learning and how this can be applied to their own professional settings. These sessions will facilitate the writing of the students’ final report.
For this section, students are required to keep a reflective journal throughout the program.
