BU Symphonic Choir & Symphony Orchestra Strings
The BU Symphonic Choir and Symphony strings present a program of contemporary Baltic works by Ēriks Ešenvalds, Arvo Pärt, and Pēteris Vasks. The program opens would Pärt’s mournful Cantus in Memory of Benjamin Britten (1980) leading to Vasks’ ecstatic Dona nobis pacem, a work for large chorus and strings from 1996. The program will close with Ešenvalds striking Passion & Resurrection, premiered in Latvia in 2005. The seldom-heard work, for chorus, quartet, soprano, and orchestra, depicts both the passion and resurrection of Christ with texts from Holy Scripture and liturgies of the Catholic and Byzantine churches. Dr. Miguel Ángel Felipe leads the musicians in his debut as BU’s Director of Choral Activities, ad interim.
